About the event

UNLOCK YOUR INNER CAST

What characters do you naturally choose to play on stage? Is it someone similar to yourself or would you go for a bolder choice? And have you ever wondered what characters are waiting just outside your comfort zone?

In this three-hour workshop, we’ll push past typecasting and tap into your full creative range. Through guided exercises, structured play, and bold experimentation, you’ll discover surprising, delightful, and even challenging characters.

Expect:

  • Connection with scene partners

  • Joyful risk-taking

  • Meaningful self-discovery

  • And, of course, a lot of laughter

This is a safe, supportive space for improvisers who want to grow, stretch, and surprise themselves. Whether you’re looking to break out of old patterns or expand your emotional and character toolkit - this is your invitation.

Let’s play, explore, reflect, and unlock the characters only you can bring to life.

INSTRUCTOR: Van Tran (VN)

Van’s improv adventure began in the wild world of New York City at UCB and Magnet Theatre, where she accidentally walked into a class and never looked back. One “Yes, and…” led to another, and before she knew it, she was hooked. Fueled by the improv bug (very contagious), she flew back to Vietnam to cook up Saigon Improv House - a space where creativity, connection, and spontaneous weirdness could bloom.

Since then, she’s produced everything from two-person duos to movement improv and comedy shows that have left audiences laughing, crying, or both (sometimes at the same time). She’s performed at festivals from Hanoi to Manila, Canberra, Singapore, and Saigon - basically, everywhere there's a stage and free snacks.

When not performing, Van’s busy helping others find their improv magic. Her classes are known for being structured, supportive, and occasionally interrupted by fits of laughter (hers are the loudest). She's also a firm believer that a good teacher never stops being a student - because how else can you truly understand the fear of forgetting everything mid-scene?
